Motion by Hahn to approve May 8, 2025 Parks Board minutes, seconded by Painter. 

Approved Unanimously.

Youth Sports Updates: 

IVL League standings are Little League Baseball 1-0; Little League Softball 1-1; Pony League Softball 2-0. Werner submitted the first round of umpire timesheets to the city clerk for payment. Discussion included a reminder for conduct for all players/coaches/umpires. Any concerns need to be brought to the league commissioners immediately.

Small Diamond center field lights are repaired and are in working order. 

Still awaiting update/quote on the scoreboard for the replacement of the LED lights in the areas that they are non-functional. Maintenance to review.

Kids Pickleball Clinic is moving forward. More details to follow, but our adult players are willing to assist.

No action taken for open P&R seat.

General Equipment & Maintenance

Discussion included P&R requested spraying of the weeds at both playgrounds as they are growing up through the mulch. Maintenance representative was present and will follow up.

Discussion included comments from maintenance staff regarding excessive trash and alcohol consumption at the ball diamonds. P&R will send out reminders to use trash receptacles and also discuss updating the Diamond Rental Agreement to include this reminder in the next update.

Motion by Painter to increase certified umpire pay to $65. Uncertified umpires will make $40 per game (up to 3 games), $45 per game for 4-6 games and $50 per game if they umpire more than 7 games. Seconded by Hahn. Approved unanimous.

Motion by Hahn to lease concession stand to Jon and Sabrina Marte. Seconded by Werner. Approved unanimous. 

Motion by Hahn to add a keypad lock to the city park shed. Seconded by Painter. Approved unanimous.

Citizen Comments 

Citizens present to discuss concerns regarding dust if the City Park ball diamond sod is replaced with lime. Committee will evaluate alternative approaches to increasing the versatility of the field without creating a dust issue.

Motion by Painter to approve March 2025 meeting minutes, seconded by Miner.  Approved unanimously.

Youth Sports update

Baseball/softball team status: 2 Tball teams, 1 LL softball, 1 LL baseball, 1 PL softball, Coach Pitch boys 7 players/1 team, Coach Pitch girls 5 girls - team status pending awaiting final numbers and possible collaboration with Norway girls

Jersey selection and order plan is final.

Photographer has been finalized, dates forthcoming pending practice/game scheduling.  Discussion also included umpires. 

Discussion included pitching machine purchase for LL baseball to fill current gap on pitching machines that have appropriate speed range for LL.  Motion by Werner to approve up to $750 for a speed-appropriate pitching machine for LL boys baseball.  Seconded by Painter.  Motion carried.  In favor: Werner, Painter.  Opposed: Miner 

Motion to approve Fireworks Display Permit to Iowa Pyrotechnics by Miner, seconded by Painter.  Approved unanimously.

Motion by Miner to approve February 4th meeting minutes seconded by Davis.   Approved unanimous.

2025 Youth Sports

IVL update - Hiawatha has been accepted into the IVL for softball for the 2025 season.

IVL baseball and softball season set to begin the week of May 19.

Registration opened on February 14 and are ongoing; 27 registrants so far.

Discussion regarding umpires included possibility of aligning with umpire.

Motion by Werner to approve up to $150 to replace softball pitching machine pad bracket, seconded by Painter.   Approved unanimous.

Motion by Werner to approve up to $1000 to procure seasonal baseball/softball supplies, seconded by Hahn. Approved unanimous

Discussion included possible utilization scenarios of all three ball diamonds - large, small, and the one at City Park. Additional discussion established April 12 as supplies organization and inventory at ball diamond storage building.

2025 Concession Stand Lease

Pepsi arrangement is not being renewed.  No further action taken.
